We'd like to thank everyone that participated in our AMA with Luca C. (lucaviness) last week, and we'd also like to encourage everyone to participate in our ongoing AMA with Drummer (ending on December 13th). I've compiled all of the responses and included the best of those responses in this article - not all responses will be in this post; however, you may send Thunderbolt a message on the IFC for a response to your question if it is not included in this thread. Alternatively, you may send an email to v1rotateblog@gmail.com.

Is it hard to go about on the forum with such an amazing profile picture?

Very challenging; whoever it made it must feel very proud of themselves (@nsfw and @Suhas on the IFC).

Who inspires you, IRL and in IF?

Within Infinite Flight, TaipeiGuru definitely inspires me. He was my Radar Trainer for IFATC and is one of the most knowledgeable, kind, and selfless people that you’ll meet. His exceptional work ethic and great moral values are what inspire me the most.

What do you consider your greatest IF achievement?

I’m pretty proud of the ATC Communications guide that Jared (@PlaneGeek) and I put together with some help from fellow IFATC members. At the time, it seemed like it for sure filled a gap that was open within the tutorial spectrum. A lesson that I learned from that project is, if you don’t like something, do something about it. Jared and I were both annoyed with Expert Server pilot behavior in terms of communication. Complaining obviously didn’t do us any good, so we made a guide.

How did you discover Infinite Flight?

In 2018, I had just gotten off a Boeing 737 from San Diego to Oakland. I truly felt inspired by that flight and wanted to check out some simulators. I didn’t have the hardware to allow for sims like MSFS or X-Plane so I browsed through my mobile app store. Infinite Flight caught my eye. I quickly got involved in the community but, due to personal reasons, had to step away for a bit until just a few months ago in late April. I contacted naro, became an IFATC, and have loved every minute of this community since.

What advice would you give to an aspiring IFATC Officer?

There are two roads that will lead to success in this regard. Either…

  1. Have TaipeiGuru as your trainer.

  2. Attend training sessions! Training sessions were so important to me when I first started radar training. If you start attending them now, you’ll help your fellow Officers in Training and also be one step ahead when you start training. For example, Colton (@ColtonS) is not an Officer and is not in training. However, he attends many sessions a day and has learned a lot from it. We were messing around one time at Paro and just through his training session knowledge, he drew up a master plan for Paro Radar.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, we actually just got our first pet three weeks ago. Her name is Ginger and she’s half Border Collie, half Hungarian Vizsla.

What does an average day look like for you?

A weekday looks like the following...

5:50am - Wake-up, morning run

6:30am - Shower, breakfast

7:00am - School until 3:30pm

3:45pm - Cross Country practice until 5:00pm

5:10pm - Shower, homework

6:00pm - Dinner

6:30pm - Homework, Infinite Flight, homework, Infinite Flight… until 10:00pm

10:15pm - lights out, sleep until 5:50am

A weekend is Infinite Flight from 6am to Midnight with some exercise, homework, and family time in between.

What is your favorite aspect of Infinite Flight?

I’m not sure if you’re talking about the app or Infinite Flight in general, so I’ll answer both. The app, probably the amazing controlling interface. Hard to believe that 50+ aircraft on one frequency is possible on a phone. In general, the community. The community is what makes this app. Sure, Infinite Flight is a fantastic app, and I say that sincerely, but it wouldn’t be what it is today without the community built around it, the VAs, IFATC, everything.

Thoughts on the A330 getting reworked?

I was a huge supporter of the A220 addition but, of course, this isn’t a game changer for me. While we probably don’t need yet another wide-body, the A220 will get reworked eventually and I’m sure we can all find the positives in the community’s decision this time around.

How did you initially become interested in aviation?

I can’t specifically remember a key moment… it has probably been an accumulation of Infinite Flight and real-world aviation clubs and flying. Each experience has pushed me to pursue aviation even further.

Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Of course not! Why would you ever eat bread, cheese, tomatoes, and a pineapple in one bite? Disgusting.

Where are you from?

San Francisco, California. To be specific, just North over the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin.

Best experiences and moments while being part of IFATC?

Radar training with @TaipeiGuru. Training challenged me, especially when balancing it with a new school and a growing list of real-world commitments. I felt so relieved once I passed my second radar test, it was something I had been working towards for about a month. Other than that, controlling with friends and helping out wherever possible.

And how will you spend Christmas this year?

I’ll be spending Christmas with my family, at home. We usually have our grandparents over but this year is different due to the Coronavirus. It’s great seeing my parents and sisters, the best Christmas present I could ask for.

How do you feel about the number “73” and how is it relevant/special in your life?

It’s a nice number, but I know some that are better. @RTG113 and @JetCentric love it though; you all should ask them why, never got the chance to myself.

What do you do when you’re free or bored?

I usually try to attend an ATC training session, read a book, or watch Brooklyn 99. Otherwise, voice chatting with friends always cures my boredom.

What do you plan to do in your future?

I’m looking at going into finance or aviation. If I pursue aviation further, it would probably look like a private pilot’s certificate and becoming an air traffic controller. IFATC has actually really inspired me to look at ATC as a future career, so it’s definitely a possibility.

Where do you live?

I’ve grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area my whole life, but attend boarding school in St. Louis, Missouri. Currently, I’m in San Francisco visiting my family and enjoying the warm winter weather.

Why don’t you show the “regular” tag next to your IFC username?

It’s not a super important thing to display, in my opinion. Being a “Regular” means nothing. I used to think it did, but after I became one I realized how nothing had changed. Anyone can help out, and anyone can be helpful, with or without the tag. You don’t need a special badge to be a regular around the form. Just be helpful, positive, and kind.

Why are you so cool?

I drink a special elixir every morning at 6:27am, paired with dark rye toast. Works like a charm!

We'd once again like to thank everyone that participated, and we'd like to extend a special thank you to Luca for participating in this interview. Until next time!
